Marble countertops
Tan Marble
If your bathroom or kitchen has tan, beige or off-white marble countertops, opt for accent colors that warm up the space. Soft mocha brown, warm peach, yellow-gold, taupe or soft gray look appealing when paired with tan marble. You might also find a paint swatch that closely matches your marble and opt for an accent color that is one or two shades lighter or darker on the same color strip. Tan marble often has specks and grains of brown, peach or gray in its composition, so accent colors that match those hues often work best. If you prefer more contrast, muted shades of green, such as olive, sage or gray-green coordinate with most styles of tan marble.
Black and Gray Marble
Black and gray marble countertops are luxurious and modern, but they're also dark, so you need to choose accent colors that lighten up the space. Light gray, soft taupe, antique white, pale yellow, sand and caramel look appealing with black and gray marble. For a darker, contrasting color combination, opt for a deep cherry red or burgundy accent color. Stainless steel, chrome and brushed nickel accents, such as soap dishes, appliances, towel racks, candlesticks and accent bowls, brighten and lighten the dark tones and draw attention to the slivers and specks of gray in the marble.
Dark Brown Marble
Dark brown marble is warm and earthy, but it tends to have a dominant presence in the room. As a result, you need accent colors that make your kitchen or bathroom feel bright and cheerful, especially if your cabinetry is also dark. Opt for white, tan, terracotta, light gray, soft gray-green, yellow-gold, Wedgewood blue, champagne or taupe. You might select a color that is in the veins of the marble and also in the grains of your wood cabinetry to tie the two furnishings together. For example, soft peach tones in maple cabinetry often blend with the muted orange streaks in brown marble.
Green Marble
Green marble countertops are less neutral than other shades of marble and often have a more formal appeal. Green marble typically has black, charcoal, white or gray veins and looks appealing with white or off-white accent colors. Look for a brown, tan, white or beige vein in the marble and choose a color that matches the vein. You don't want the green color to clash with your accent colors. Lighter and darker shades of gray-green coordinate well with green marble, so you might create a green color scheme. Brighten up a green kitchen with a metallic bowl of cherry red apples or bright yellow lemons or liven up a green bathroom with bright white towels or a fuchsia soap pump and fuchsia candles.
